Harnessing the passion of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022, Walsall Council Public Health and Black Country Commonwealth Active Communities  Programme have a £51,000 Tackling Inactivity fund to address inactivity across Walsall.  The funding will be considered and allocated on a first come first serve basis - and will be based on projects who are the first to pitch and become successfully verified and crowdfunding.

The focus of the fund will be on encouraging physical activity and raising awareness of the longer term benefits of physical activity on wellbeing. 

Projects can receive up to 60% of project costs to a maximum of £5,000 per organisation, per fund,  per year (following the calendar year from Jan to Dec). 

To be eligible:

• projects must benefit Walsall residents and priority will be offered to Walsall led organisations.​
• ​projects must contribute to tackling inactivity in Walsall
• ​projects should demonstrate creativity / innovation.​
• we can only match-fund projects that are being delivered by constituted organisations inc community groups,​ social enterprises, residents or trader associations, sports groups and local charities. 
• schools can apply in partnership with a Community Voluntary Sector organisation.​

​What can't we fund: ​​

• individuals are not eligible for this fund.​
• projects supporting private interests / profit making organisations.​
• projects excluding any particular groups in society or those with protected characteristics.​
• proposals from political groups.​
• projects that are part of a campaign or promote particular religions/faiths/political ideologies not considered to be inclusivw
• we are not able to match fund Statutory provision, Local Authority teams or Council projects.​

The Fund will never be the first organisation to pledge to your project as they will want to see that you have local support from your community before a pledge is made.

This fund aims to collect outcomes which evidence an increase in activity and /or health and well being outcomes, of Walsall residents.  

Anyone can create a project on Spacehive but to be eligible for the Community Capital Investment Fund you must meet our key eligibility criteria and your project must align to the priorities of the fund.

We have a £50,000 fund available.  With allocations to be split between Bloxwich town deal area and Walsall town deal area.  Potentially we can pledge up to a maximum of £15,000 or 90% of the overall total project value.

Crowdfund Walsall have an allocation of the Community Capital Programme funding - to support smaller projects up to £15,000 in project value.

The overarching aim of the Towns Fund is to drive the sustainable economic regeneration of towns to deliver long term economic and productivity growth. 

The Community capital fund is to refurbish, update buildings and provide equipment that provide enhanced learning and support environments to provide local people with skills needed for work activity.  Only capital costs can be funded and include constructing and / or renovating buildings as well as buying equipment.  Examples include installing a new kitchen, installing in an IT suite for training purposes and refurbishing/rennovating your building.

We can only make one pledge per fund, per organisation, per year (April to April). You would have to have delivered one project and completed all of the agreed outcomes, before you are considered for further funding.

 

To be eligible:

• organisations must be not-for-profit Community And Voluntary sector organisations or charities.
• all costs must be capital costs only (we cannot fund any revenue costs in this fund).

Outcomes of the fund:

• deliver the refurbishment/renovation/upgrade of CAPITAL costs only- with before and after photos.
• deliver indirect learning assisted outcomes - accredited or non-accredited.

UK Shared Prosperity Fund. To be eligible for the UKSPF fund you must meet our key eligibility. Your project must also align to the priorites of the fund as highlighted in the image below. 

We have a £35,000 fund available for CAPITAL and/or REVENUE projects.

This fund aims to collect outcomes which evidence an increase in NEW engagement numbers of people within your organisation. We are looking for projects that have capacity building and infrastructure support for local groups. You will be required to ask your participants to complete surveys to evidence that they are NEW ENGAGEMENTS to your organisation. Where capital works are taking place we will require before and after photos of the changes/rennovations/improvements.

We can only make one pledge from the UKSPF capital fund and one pledge from the UKSPF revenue fund,  per organisation, per year (following the calendar year from Jan to Dec), based on eligibility criteria and the project idea being suitable for each/both funds.

To be eligible:

• projects must benefit Walsall residents, be walsall based and be delivered in Walsall.​
• ​projects must contribute to improving places, spaces or residents’ quality of lives.​
• projects should demonstrate creativity / innovation.​
• we can only match-fund projects that are being delivered by constituted organisations inc community groups,​ social enterprises, residents or trader associations, sports groups and local charities. ​

(1) Walsall Community Heritage fund

Through the Walsall Community Heritage fund we can pledge up to £3,500 to projects which align to Heritage. 

‘Heritage’ can mean many different things to many different people. It isn’t solely defined by historic buildings, museum collections or stories of past industry. Instead, people and communities also make up our heritage; our connections with the past and with each other, our shared interests and values. We are committed to supporting projects across the spectrum of what heritage means to people across the borough. 

This might include:

• Nature e.g. improving natural habitats, supporting species or improving people's connection with the natural environment.
• Social history e.g. recording people's experiences, exhibiting archive photos, commemorating events.
• Refurbishment of community assets e.g. repair work to heritage buildings and spaces.
• Publishing e.g. producing new creative writing, photography, podcasts or other creative projects.
• Project development e.g. pilot projects, business planning or feasibility work for larger community heritage projects.
• Training bursaries e.g. new training opportunities for young people or those returning to work to learn traditional building or craft skills. 
• Digital e.g. developing new digital platforms such as websites, apps or archives celebrating heritage themes.
• Traditional skills: including arts, music, dance, cuisine etc e.g. providing experiences for new audiences.

Additional Criteria

• All projects must be located within the borough boundary.
• As per the main Crowdfund Walsall fund, we are only able to match-fund projects that are being delivered by constituted organisations including registered charities, community groups, social enterprises, resident or trader associations, local charities or schools.

(2) Public Health Men's Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund

Introduction

Working in partnership with Spacehive, the UK’s leading civic crowdfunding platform, Walsall Council’s Public Health team has allocated a total of £40,000 to the Crowdfund Walsall programme.

Walsall’s Men’s Wellbeing Fund can offer a pledge of either 80% or a maximum of £5,000 for projects which support men across the borough. 

Eligibility

Your organisation is eligible for this grant fund if you can answer yes to all of these questions below:

·        Are you based and will your project be delivered in Walsall?​

·        Does your project include wellbeing outcomes for the men of Walsall? ​

·        Are you a not-for-profit organisation, community and voluntary group, social enterprise, or charity? ​

Beneficiaries

Walsall Men's Wellbeing Fund projects must seek to address health inequalities and the impact Mental Health and Wellbeing has on men especially:

1) Young men
2) Older men
3) Men from Black, Asian, Other ethnic groups
4) Men with physical, learning or mental disabilities
5) Men who are  low paid, unemployed or live in areas of high levels deprivation
6) Men who identify as GBTQ+
7) Carers

Outcomes and Activities

Providers can bid to deliver a combination of prevention, early interventions and activities that improve wellbeing, such as mental health awareness raising, building resilience, meaningful physical activities, improving relationships and social connection, community cohesion, volunteering  peer mentorship and skills sharing, etc.

Projects that aim to do any of the following will be most likely to receive funding:

·       Train staff and/or volunteers to improve communication skills

·       Promote recognition of mental health problems in the community

·       Provide a forum or similar for men to connect with each other perhaps through activities that enables social interaction and relationship building​
