Greenway: Library and Nature Centre

Paddock Active Climate Change Group By Paddock Active Climate Change Group

Many children, young people and adults are denied access and knowledge of the natural world environment. We will develop a 'library' of resources to help them tackle the effects of climate change.

This project was funded on 12 Aug 2023!

Our objective is to provide a place where people will be welcomed and encouraged to explore our extraordinary world and appreciate the wellness benefits of our green spaces and the richness of nature on our doorstep. • The Paddock Active Climate Change Group are establishing a Library and Nature Study Centre. Initially it will be based in the Ryecroft Community Hub, • A huge range of books will be on loan to everyone and a special section on Nature, Wildlife, Rewilding, Energy/Conservation and retrofitting will be a particular focus. • The Centre will be equipped with wildlife study equipment for use both in the field and the room. • Our purpose is to encourage reading, to search for knowledge, to learn about the rich habitats of Paddock and Ryecroft, and to enjoy the wonderful countryside and the pathways that link our green spaces. • The funds are needed for library/study furniture, equipment/materials and for books for ages.

What we'll deliver:

  • Natural World, Environment, Climate Change, books, resources and study equipment.
  • Refurbish a room at Ryecroft Hub to provide a safe, welcoming and informal learning area
  • Provide volunteer led sessions in the Centre, initially twice per week

Why it's a great idea:

We will use all our contacts and social media streams to explain and advertise the Greenway. PACCG and Ryecroft Hub have considerable reach in Paddock and Blakenall areas. We will hold open days and interest events at Ryecroft and in venues along the Paddock Reyecroft Green Corridor. eg Longwood Boat Club. We will provide active walking and cycling sessions for interested participants.we aim to have an outdoor activity once per week. we will expand the sessions as we become more experienced and as volunteer time increases. We aim to involve water users and to provide water activities as time permits. Our partnerships with CRT/ Longwood Boat Club and several cycle ling organisations will form a secure basis for these outdoor active sessions. nay providing these activities we hope to encourage participants to become more active.

Steps to get it done:

  • We will hold 3 public engagement events in three different venues along the Green Corridor,
  • We will develop a library of resources in the Greenway Centre within 6 weeks of project start
  • Wes will hold starter practical sessions for 200 visitors over the initial phase of the project.
