Warm Up,Skill Up - Delves Community Hall

We would like to create a warm, welcoming, creative and inclusive space, accompanied with food and activities for all to enjoy, using the community hall of a local church in the Delves community.

The idea

The community hall will be open to adults in the local area from 11am to 3pm on a Saturday, twice a month for 6 months.

We want this warm space to commence in September 2025. We will provide hot drinks, cake, biscuits, soup and roll, sandwiches, other hot food items and light refreshments. There will be 1 hour of activity each Saturday to include art and craft sessions, computer technology lessons, motivational talks on various subjects including entrepreneurship, budgeting, parenting and marriage, mental health and general health and well being. In addition we will have games and film watching afternoons, Zumba exercise classes, short walking trips to local parks, a skills sharing day and also a warm garments sharing day.

While a warm space is provided with heating, food and fellowship, there is an opportunity to not only relax, eat and drink but also to share and be loved.

With your support we can partner with others, serve and make a difference in the Delves community.

What we'll deliver

  • Provide food and drink in various forms for duration of events
  • Provide computer lessons and adhoc administration support for all participants
  • Produce flyers and a banner to advertise the warm space events
  • Provide games and have film afternoons to foster community engagement and friendship
  • Provide 1 hour motivational talks on business, budgeting, health and well being, parenting and marriage
  • Provide 45 minutes to 1 hour of Zumba lessons to encourage exercise and improve health and happiness
  • Encourage skills sharing and clothing distribution activities for all participants and the wider the community
  • Provide art and craft activities
  • Lead 1 hour of walking activities in local parks discovering more of Walsall and local surroundings

Why it's a great idea

Many adults live alone, men and women; senior citizens, single parents, widows, married couples whose children have all grown up and left home. In a warm welcoming space such as this, one can encourage and learn from each other and develop new skills that can:
Enhance their lives.
Reduce isolation and loneliness.
Reduce the effects of anxiety and depression.
Enhance existing skills and develop new interests/hobbies.

Restore positivity, good feelings, joy, laughter and a sense of belonging.

Contribute to a boost in confidence to step out of comfort zones and be courageous, adventurous, willing to try something new.

Boost in health through physical exercise - walking in the local park and dancing, Zumba sessions.

Foster new friendships.

Steps to get it done

  • Hire hall space, purchase resources and recruit volunteers to provide a life changing experience for all participants.
  • Listen to the needs of participants through meaningful feedback for future improvements
