The environment

The environment

Litter picking helped reduce litter in the community and raised an awareness of keeping the community clean. Members of the public who noticed us, shared their appreciation as we cleaned the pavements and streets. We recycled all paper and plastic materials used after cooking, serving refreshments and also from any decorating.

The local economy

The local economy

We purchased advertising material from a local printer, we sourced all food items from local retailers.

Volunteering, jobs & education

Volunteering, jobs & education

Twelve volunteers took part in the project. The total hours recorded for 5 out of 12 volunteers was 314 hours.

Activity, health and leisure

Activity, health and leisure

Ten surveys were used to measure well-being. Five who were inactive became active, one who was inactive became active, 3 remained fairly active and 1 remained inactive. Participants enjoyed the Zumba and line dancing sessions and were also keen to take part in the litter picking activities. We had four Zumba sessions, one line dancing session and three litter picking sessions. Adults of various age groups participated. We were pleased to see one female participant, a single mom who took part in Zumba sessions, made pumpkin soup the second week she attended and shared with everyone. Another male participant who lives alone brought CDs, dominoes, cards and Christmas decorations. The surveys provided evidence of how people felt after attending various sessions. After taking part in Zumba, one participant said that they felt “absolutely fabulous”. Another said, “I felt great and wonderful”. Other comments included, “enjoyed socializing”, “felt better, worth being there”, and “refreshing, always a lovely energy.”
