Midland International Aid Trust (MIAT) of which I am a CEO owns the WASUP Project - World Against Single use Plastic. I founded the WASUP project in 2017 that has 4 principles. 

Raising Awareness about the scourge of single use plastic packaging, education, litter picking and putting pressure on plastic supply chains.

During lockdown it has been difficult to dliver these Principles:

I have given talks to well over 100 schools locally, regionally and internationally about the dangers of plastic entering our food chain resulting in poteial cancers, depression of the immune system and causing infertility. Hence my interest in schools that I know quite well, and will now offer them gardens – if they want, to construct one without any plastic.

Children in schools will come to learn about biodiversity and what is needed for plants to grow, and also appreciate and respect the environment with a long-term view on understanding sustainability. Carry out nature-based activities and bring wild life into the garden, such as hedge hogs or bees to live. My vision is that ‘growing a garden’, with wild life will be fun for children too, with lots of different types of minibeast and insects such as ladybirds, bees, spiders and woodlice living in bug hotels. These minibeasts can then use bug hotels as a safe space to shelter, lay their eggs, raise their young, and seek refuge from predators.

We already have 4 gardens in the Midlands and a few in Pakistan and soon in India. 

I want to start a pilot project in 20 schools and see the impact over a year. Gardens will benefit hubdreds of children particularly as has been proven those with autism and ADHD. Further information can be obtained from www.wasupme.com  and www.miatwalsall.org.uk and www.professorgatrad.com
