The idea
To build and deliver a community allotment that will involve local school children being fully involved in the project alongside other volunteers.
The aim is to educate the children in how to grow healthy, sustainable food sources and once nurtured the participating children will, then have the honour of handing over the fruits of their labour free of charge to some of the most vulnerable and under privileged residents of the borough.
Older people with experience of having their own allotment will support the children with how to and what to plant.
We urge everyone, who is has the means to do so to donate to such a wonderful project.
Not only is it an educational project it is one that will continually be able to give back to the community we live in.
What we'll deliver
- Purchase lawn mower
- Clear the ground/groundworks
- Build community garden
- Open/launch garden
- Deliver learning outcomes
Why it's a great idea
The project will provide children with the opportunity of learning how to grow food, that can be distributed to food banks and provide a platform for inter-generational engagement.
Older aged members of the community who have experience of developing their own allotments will provide advise and expertise on what to plant and when.
The project will also provide sustainability to the organisation through the purchase of a lawn mower, enabling regular maintenance of the sports field, ensuring usage throughout the year.
