Brilliant news, thanks everyone!
This project is going to be a one off event to raise awareness of mental health. The event will bring together providers who aim to support mental health and wellbeing in Walsall.
There is a short fall in support for black males to find the right space to open up and talk in confidence about how their mental health has had an impact on their life, In recent times it has been documented by government statistics that there is a high percentage of black males, that go undiagnosed or end up in police custody or held under section 36 of the mental health act in hospital, with mental health issues. This event will be a spring board in providing additional support within the Walsall area. On this day there will be a various out reach pop-up services offering different support that there will also be food and and entertainment games and safe space for you to come and talk and find help for whatever support you require. Families are also welcome as we will be catering for the needs of the family unit. The event will be held on the 19th of October (during Black History Month) at Walsall Community Association - WS2 8PR.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
With the way society has been over the last few years, we need to give more power to the more senior generation and the opportunity to think about how their life has evolved over time, and how they have held onto so many issues from their past that have gone unspoken about and just suppressed. By knowing why you feel a certain way can help you better understand, how you can move forwards, and teach others how to evolve feel share and open up and show empathy. Breaking the stigma of men should be strong is a myth that should not be something to teach the younger generation to show empathy and companion will in still the respect that has been missing in most family environment. If we can show the younger generation it is ok to say that you are not ok and ask for help and not to suppress their feelings can help support everyone within their local community
Steps to get it done:
As I did for one young lady 3 years ago by intervening and saving her life from suicide due to her mental health, I know that I can reach out to so much more in the same way, and help give them a second chance at life. 47 millions people viewed the clip on BBC breakfast and was taken back by the warm actions of a stranger.
