The idea
Changing the floodlights to LED will mean less energy and more play as current ones overheat and break down. We can then have more local people playing in the evenings. Offering those who work the opportunity to get into bowling. The lights will also be less reflective in the neighbourhood and direct more light onto the green instead of up higher. The green is not used enough in the evenings and we want to be able to offer a healthy option for those individuals who need exercise that is not too strenuous initially. Weather seems better as the year moves on hence why we can play in the darker nights in the future. This will also bring business into the Sports Club.
The cabin is a two fold item one of which is to give members a place to store their belonging whilst bowling and also supporters to be watching/marking from in the inclement weather of which we have had plenty this year. Also a storage for equipment over the winter months.
What we'll deliver
- a growth in membership covering all ages
- Cabin to hold supporters for league games and equipment.
- Save on cost of energy by lowering light emission
Why it's a great idea
We want to increase membership of those who need a healthy sports option without too much effort, getting people outdoors meeting people is good for their mental health and mixing with others of similar age and locality with help improve socially.
There is a shortage of people coming into bowls so we wish to develop more opportunities for younger people to get into sport we have a successful hockey and cricket junior clubs on site so we wish to raise this area. We also wish to increase the number of work age people to join the club.
We already have a safeguarding policy and officer for vulnerable adults and children at the green along with a trained coach and wish to help take this forward more positively having lost people since Covid. We will therefore target specific groups and advertise locally to get new members along with the options British Crown Green Bowls Association offer. We also want to make our green more accessible for all having done a lot of work to accessibility.
Steps to get it done
- To reduce the glare of lights into neighbours
- to increase membership of those wanting a healthy option
Help people feel safe, secure and improve their mental health and ability to meet others
We want to grow to help all levels as mentioned however with the aging population we need to be able to support our older members and vulnerable individuals and support their needs.
We are a community within a community supporting each other along the way whatever the ability or level of bowling the social is wonderful something for all and we want to make it the place to come even just to watch.
