Learning from last year we aim to purchase additional decorative lights to install in the area in time for Diwali and Christmas to make it a multi cultural event with more community interaction.
Following the fantastic success and support for the 2022 project we are looking to purchase an additional 30 Decorative lights and install them on some more lampposts in our area. The installation and turn on for 2023 is aimed to be earlier in line with Diwali where some lights will be turned on and nearer Christmas the remainder will also be turned on. Our Christmas light walks with QR codes was a success and we intend to repeat this walk along with the Christmas Fayre which also saw many people come together and enjoy the festivities. In addition we will organise a walk for Diwali where people can admire the lights along the route, QR codes will be used on the lampposts for this event also.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
We have taken on board the issues from learned from last years project and are confident we can use the knowledge gained to ensure a smoother operation this year.A significant infrastructure is in place to allow us to install and turn on the decorative lights earlier, this will enable us to tie in to Diwali ( the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance festival) and appeal to even more people in our community. We will hold events such as sponsored walks, bowls competitions, dances to help raise funds as well as organised light walks when they are installed. Not only will even more of our community appreciate the lights for mental well being but there is the added benefit of the physical activities linked to the project.
Steps to get it done:
We intend to use only lights that have been returned to the manufacturer, fully overhauled and refurbished and that are now LED lights. This will help with environmentaly not only at time of manufacture but also during use as they will use significantly less electricity because of being LED. We installed QR codes on the lampposts last year and people were encouraged to use the codes to access our website which took the user to a group or club that were involved in physical activities. Some people came on our organised walk and passed opinion that they felt good with the walk and the lights had certainly lifted their spirits however many more walked in their own time, we know this from the number of hits on the website. at the time the only way to access our website was through these codes so we know this to be true. This year we will launch much earlier as a lot of things were learned from the issues last year. We will target other groups to make it a multi cultural activity.
