This project was funded on 19 Dec 2022!

B-READY, set, go! is an exercise and physical activity focused project that aims to tackle high blood pressure (hypertension). We believe that this project is important because high blood pressure kills more people than any other condition. We want to raise the awareness in order to save lives. Reducing blood pressure prevents stroke, heart attack, kidney damage and other health problems. We work with the whole community of Walsall, including supermarkets, local businesses and sports clubs. We understand and value diversity and equality. We are constantly looking for innovative ways to improve the community's health and wellbeing as we have noticed a lack of awareness and understanding of high blood pressure (hypertension) and heart health. This project aims to shed more light on the problems and solutions. B-READY, set, go!

What we'll deliver:

  • Deliver training sessions on healthy nutrition and salt reduction
  • Create information leaflets that are given to members of the community to raise awareness.
  • Organise regular public events in our community such as family fun days for community engagement
  • Provide free health checks to monitor blood pressure results for community members.
  • Taster days. This will involve residents being supported to access new activities to gain their confidence.
  • Qualified physical activity experts will deliver sessions live or online
  • Promote the use of local assets such as local parks by keeping a database of local assets

Why it's a great idea:

Taking part in meaningful, active leisure activities not only enriches lives, but it can also help prevent the development of life-threatening illnesses. However, perhaps the greatest benefit is the boost in self-confidence. Other benefits to the community include an improvement in quality of life, reduction of the risk of cardiovascular disease. Globally, more than a million people die each year from heart attacks and strokes caused by excess salt consumption. Salt reduction is possible, and we aim to equip members of our community with the necessary tools and skills to eat well and exercise safely. We will expect to see improved patient outcomes, and this will save the NHS from the burden of treating complications of hypertension. Our community will experience happier, healthier lives. Walsall residence will gain a high level of self-confidence and self-reliance to take responsibility for doing as much as they can for their own health improvement.

Steps to get it done:

  • Buying equipment to be able to provide free health checks.
  • To provide training on how to measure and record blood pressure
  • To source a user-friendly App that allows blood pressure to be recorded and monitored

B-READY, set go! is a long-term project. We aim to keep moving and shaking well into the future. We strive to make our environment one of belonging and welcoming to all. We make people feel heard and understood.
