The idea
We’re transforming Walsall Orthodox Church hall into a safe, inclusive space for the whole community. With over 150–200 attendees weekly from all backgrounds and faiths, our facilities are no longer fit for purpose. The toilets are outdated and unsafe, especially for children, elderly, and disabled visitors.
This project will fund urgently needed toilet refurbishments, enabling us to open the hall for wider use and launch new wellbeing-focused activities like seated movement sessions, choir classes, gentle stretching, and more.
Our growing parish has supported people facing addiction, mental health struggles, family breakdowns, and isolation. These improvements will help us reach more people in a safe, dignified environment.
Back this project to improve access, wellbeing, and community connection in one of Walsall’s most welcoming faith-based spaces.
What we'll deliver
- Refurbish and replace all male, female, and accessible toilets Install baby-changing and disabled access improvements
- Fit safe, slip-resistant flooring and essential heating
- Redecorate and clean up key areas for hygiene and comfort
Why it's a great idea
Our project will provide safe, accessible facilities for children, elderly, and disabled visitors. This will unlock the space for inclusive community activities — improving mental wellbeing, reducing isolation, and encouraging physical engagement across all ages. It supports a growing, multicultural parish that offers support to those facing addiction, abuse, grief, and loneliness — making a lasting impact in Walsall.
Steps to get it done
- Finalise activity programme & suppliers Confirm schedules for singing for health, movement, stretching & posture classes
- Secure any class equipment, materials for activities, and order refurbishment supplies
- Refurbishment works begin – Carry out men’s, women’s, and accessible toilet upgrades
- Start delivering new classes alongside existing ones (choir, icon painting, Bible study evenings)
- Promotion & community outreach – Publicise new facilities and activities to attract wider participation. (Week 9–10)
- Project review & feedback – Gather community feedback and measure impact against targets. (End of project)
