Black Country Orthodox Trust is a registered charity based in Walsall (Charity No. 1082272), home to the Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God. Our parish has grown from around 50 regular attendees to over 150–200 every Sunday in just a couple of years, drawing people not only from Walsall but also from Birmingham, Solihull, Leicester, Northampton, Milton Keynes, Cardiff, and beyond.
While rooted in the Orthodox Christian tradition, our doors are open to everyone. Over time we’ve welcomed a truly diverse congregation — including those from Greek, Romanian, Bulgarian, Nigerian, Chinese, French, and Congolese backgrounds, as well as Sikh, Hindu, Muslim, and atheist visitors who have come after hearing about the practical and pastoral support offered here.
Our work goes far beyond Sunday services. Together, our priest Father Samuel, the parish committee, and a team of dedicated volunteers run activities that meet real local needs, including:
-
Supporting men’s mental health, especially among young people under pressure, including those struggling with addiction, breakdowns, or suicidal thoughts.
-
Providing pastoral and practical support for individuals and families facing hardship.
-
Helping women recover from domestic abuse or family breakdowns.
-
Offering marriage counselling and parenting guidance.
-
Running chanting/choir sessions, icon painting workshops, Bible study evenings, and community gatherings.
-
Hosting cultural events and community meals that foster inclusion and unity.
We are now focused on improving our hall and toilet facilities to expand our activity programme and make it even more accessible. This includes introducing “singing for health” sessions, light movement and stretching classes, and posture-focused group activities — alongside our existing community offerings. These improvements will allow us to welcome more people, provide a safer and more dignified environment, and create a space where residents of all ages and backgrounds can feel supported, connected, and uplifted.
We are proud to be a safe, non-judgemental hub in Walsall — where compassion, community spirit, and practical help come together to make a real difference.
