The idea
Qualified experienced basketball coaches would be entering Walsall open spaces and providing quality basketball sessions in the Walsall area at several locations as a taster session on a "come and try type event", residents of Walsall would be eligible for free equipment to practice their basketball skills at home. if the people enjoy the sessions, they can attend the club sessions for a free trial for the first month with the potential of taking part in organised structured sport in the future, or to continue with the legacy of the project and take the ball they have been given and attend local parks to be more active.
The project would include a 10 week program of coaching in walsall parks at three different locations after the 10 weeks have finished the sessions would move to three other sites which have been identified for a further 10 weeks.
What we'll deliver
- Organised basketball sessions to promote the sport
- Fun, safe environment for young people to develop and thrieve
- the opportunity to join an established basketball club and play in competitions,
Why it's a great idea
The health benefits would be clear to see in terms of the physical activity, The social side of what is offered is the real gem, friendships are made and connect ability through a common goal which is sport and in the case basketball. the competition and fun structured sessions would increase people self-confidence and self-esteem.
