Community Craft Workshops

Threads By Threads

We want to provide a space for the community to come together. Our nurturing environment offers a space of connection to rediscover what we have in common whilst crafting, making and creating.

Threads is a grass roots community organisation and we love to bring people together! We offer free crafting workshops in community venues, where individuals connect, spend time together and learn new crafting skills. In a fast world, crafting and making helps us to slow down benefiting our emotional and mental wellbeing. Threads will deliver 18 workshops, aiming to support community building. Each 2 hour workshop offers card making or fabric painting and includes a welcoming activity, allowing for plenty of experiential learning and support for learners at all different stages. We will be building on successful workshops previously delivered on the Aylesbury Estate, SE17, continuing to develop our relationship with residents, wider community and Creation Trust. Threads workshops are more than a place to learn, we warmly welcome and care for every individual, nurturing a collective feeling of wellbeing, a true sense of achievement and the rediscovery of the power of community.

What we'll deliver:

  • 18 craft workshops for the Aylesbury Estate and local community to enjoy

Why it's a great idea:

Threads workshops will support individuals to engage in the act of crafting and creating which is scientifically proven to have a positive impact on mental health and wellbeing. Individuals will benefit from the opportunity to interact and share with others within the warm, nurturing and caring environment of the workshop setting. The Threads team will prepare carefully considered resources and refreshments for each workshop imbuing a personal touch and a sense of value on each participant. All are welcome to Threads workshops, including but not exclusively those who face barriers, whether poverty, isolation, mental or physical illness or prejudice. Attendees will benefit from Threads’ non-judgemental ethos, reducing stigma, promoting social cohesion and the opportunity to reconnect with their community. Threads takes an ethical approach to workshop delivery, adopting the practice of recycling, reusing and sharing in everyday life. We care about our planet.

Steps to get it done:

  • Create publicity (as workshops would be delivered over 3 terms, these dates will change accordingly)
  • Outreach (spread the word about the workshops locally and engage participants)
  • Deliver first workshops, whilst supporting participants to continue to attend
  • Complete and evaluate first set of workshops, celebrating the achievements of participants
  • Repeat above for the second set of workshops
  • Repeat above for the third set of workshops
