Threads is a small grass roots community group. We run a variety of inclusive craft workshops for all, irrespective of financial, physical or mental barriers. The core team is connected through existing relationships. Our aim is that Threads becomes a place for the wider community – where individuals can come together and benefit from spending time with others whilst learning a new skill. It is important to us to always create a safe, warm, welcoming environment to nurture individuals and the wider community, one conversation at a time.
We make decisions together as a team and believe in co-operative values, operating within a non-hierarchical structure. We are in the process of setting ourselves up with a formal legal structure, but we remain an informal group for now. Threads is an ethical and values based organisation offering the opportunity for decent and fair work for its freelance workshop leaders and outreach workers.
Threads consciously sources the materials we use. We are committed to sustainability and minimising waste. The health of our planet is important to us. At Threads, we always make decisions as a team and work collaboratively.
We have a track record of delivering workshops. We have previously been funded by the Mayor of London Culture Seeds to run indigo dyeing workshops on the Aylesbury Estate, SE17. Due to the pandemic, half of the workshops were delivered online and were well attended, receiving extremely positive feedback, providing participants some relief during difficult times. We aim for all of our workshops to lift the spirits.
