Wild About Wildlife: Restoration Project

We're delighted to announce thanks to your support the Wildlife Garden improvements are well underway! The contractors have removed the old rotten trellis and installed new posts. We're just waiting on the trellis fence to arrive later this month and then the fencing will be completed, with additional ‘window’ holes cut in the trellis to allow visitors to peep inside the space. The trees around the pond have been pruned and coppiced to allow light in for plant growth and to reduce leaf litter that falls into the pond each Autumn. The pond itself is being raised slightly by reusing reclaimed cobbles. Once complete the pond water level will rise and the ground around will also be raised on three sides to enable wildlife to access the water. We’ll leave one area open for the Young Farmers to sit and pond dip or enter the water in waders for pond maintenance. Finally when all is complete, the young people will design signs to inform visitors and plant hedge whips and wildflowers.
