Crowdfund Kent is focused on giving local organisations and groups the opportunity to take forward projects to improve their local area. The programme is continuing for 2023-24 with a fund of £200,000 from Kent County Council and we are pleased to share that NHS Kent and Medway are joining the programme with an equal funding pot of £200,000. Crowdfund Kent continues to be supported by Folkestone and Hythe District Council, who are now in their second year of the programme and have committed a fund of £17,000.

The objectives of the programme have been revised so that we can support projects which seek to address the current challenges facing communities. There is therefore a focus on disadvantaged and rural communities, financial hardship, health and wellbeing and social isolation. We hope the programme will enable us to continue to support initiatives that are locally led and driven by the local groups and networks, which make our communities.

Crowdfund Kent operates two funding rounds a year in the Spring and in the Autumn. The Spring funding round is now open wirh a deadline to have your pitch to be submitted of the 24th April 2024.

Super befrienders to help older people
Super befrienders to help older people joined CrowdFund Kent1 month ago

This pilot project will combine our skills and experience of running befriending and transport services in East Kent into a new service offering personalised support to people with high needs and no support network who are likely to be the most isolated in our communities. We will recruit volunteers from their local community, give them training and support and match them with an older person with support needs for regular face to face and telephone contact. These 'super befrienders' will become a trusted ‘friend’ to: • transport them to and from medical appointments, staying to help them out in the medical centre where needed • or take them shopping if they can't use public transport or shop online and need assistance with their groceries • or take them to and from social activities to prevent loneliness and isolation Super befrienders will make sure they get home safely and that their home is a safe environment for them, connecting them to other support where needed.

Volunteering for people seeking asylum

We will improve the local environment and create opportunities for asylum seekers living at Napier Barracks to volunteer in the local community through linking with local projects and organising our own volunteering groups. This project will build links between people living at Napier and the local community, give the men living at Napier opportunities to learn more about life in the UK, and will improve the local area in and around Folkestone. We will undertake conservation tasks, gardening for local charities and community groups, organise litter-picking, and work with other organisations to give opportunities for people seeking asylum to volunteer with other charities in Folkestone and Hythe. We will support the people living at Napier to grow seedlings and plants in the garden onsite at Napier and then transplant these into the gardens of local community groups.

Looping the Loop Youth Theatre in Thanet
Looping the Loop Youth Theatre in Thanet joined CrowdFund Kent1 month ago

Being confident enough to enter a new group, speak and join in is difficult, and especially when you're young. We want to start a new youth theatre project which works in detail with each young person, finds out what they need and builds a creative, fun, inventive programme of exercises, games and performance to enable them to blossom, with particular care for neurodivergent young people. Our past experiences blew us away with what parents said about how a weekly session was transforming lives. We will create a new Youth Theatre for Thanet which welcomes young people and understands their diversity. Weekly sessions for 7-11yrs and 11 - 18yrs will work at the speed students need, and will develop confidence by building ways for them to connect with Looping the Loop's professional artists and programme of street theatre, workshops and new productions. They are not expected to feel forced to perform in a big production, but we'll help them feel comfortable with themselves and new people.
