The idea
We are desperate to update the customer toilet block on the Whitegate Way nature trail, which supports our cafe users and the general public. Internally the decor needs totally refurbishing to include baby changing facilities and hot air hand dryers. We will replace all 4 toilets and sink units, 3 new PVC windows, 2 external doors, urinals, 1 hot water boiler & painting throughout.
We would love to create a roof top garden with turf if funds allow, and clear and plant up the immediate area around the site. Our amazing Station House Cafe volunteers and our SEN students on a Friday, will maintain the garden area, planting indigenous shrubs and flowers which will encourage wildlife, bees and butterflies. If we overfund, we would also like to provide cold shower facilities for dog owners, walkers and cyclists who use the Whitegate Way, so they can remove the worst of the mud on a rainy day before they get into their cars!
What we'll deliver
- Improve decor of toilet block with updated equipment
- Update Mens urinals
- replace sinks, toilets
- add baby changing facilities & hand dryers
- roof top garden to encorage wildflowers and invertibrates (if funds allow)
Why it's a great idea
We would like to renovate the Toilet Block with user friendly facilities to encourage more people to use the local paths along Whitegate Way, encouraging people to get out in greenspaces and fresh air with wheelchairs & prams, families with small children opening up the area for people of all ages. We would like to create a nicer space around the toilet block where volunteers can manage the upkeep with weeding and planting flowers and making wooden planters. Station House Cafe doesn't have it own toilet for customers, so this would encourage more people to support the cafe knowing there are better toilet facilities available.
Steps to get it done
- to get the initial building safe and ready for improvements
- to install new plumbing and toilet facilites
- to make the area more appealinng by gardening and adding flowers
- to replace doors and urinals and install a hot weater heater for clenaing
Improving our facilities will enable us to provide more wellbeing services to our local community, such as SEN support, supporting local charities such as St Luke's Hospice, the Air Ambulance, the British Legion, Duke of Edinburgh Scheme, supporting bereavement, mental health, Nature Makers, Passion For Learning, Deaf Awareness Network, & Dementia Friendly Groups, Rotary Club to name a few.
