Help us fund an inclusive four day festival of folk song, music, dance, crafts and traditions to bring our communities together again.
Tenterden Folk Festival 2021 will run from Thursday 30th September to Sunday 3rd October in various venues in Tenterden. As part of the festival we are offering free community events to ensure that everyone gets a chance to start mixing with the community again, not matter their financial situation. Folk appeals to all ages - the heart of folk culture about communities telling stories and coming together. Free events include: craft & street stalls, free music stage, dance stage, Morris dancers, dance displays, procession, song and music sessions & street theatre. It's not just about the entertainment - this festival gives people a chance to sample new hobbies that they continue after the festival with like-minded people. We also build a great community of volunteers in order to host the event. After a disconnected year we are keen get everyone involved in putting this festival together! Why it's a great idea:
Tenterden Folk Festival is the only annual music festival in Tenterden and one of the longest established in the Borough of Ashford. The 2021 edition is particularly special as we are celebrating the resilience of our community over the past year and using the event as a catalyst to create new connections between those who are big folk fans, new to folk and everything in between. Intergenerational connection will be key as we build our communities back stronger and the folk movement reaches all ages! The festival adds to the local arts culture offering and adds to the quality of life of the town. The festival is open to all from whatever background and most venues are easily accessible. A mix of paid for and free events means everyone can access the festival no matter their situation.

Many, many thanks to everyone who has helped Tenterden Folk Festival reach its funding target on CrowdfundKent. We are continueing to accept pledges and all funds will be used to help to improve the festival and save our small reserves for future years. Brilliant news, thanks everyone!
We have now recieved pledges amounting to just over 99.66% of our target. and there is only £126 to go. Thanks go to everyone who has helped to achieve this. Plans for Tenterden Folk Festival 2021 are now being finalised and the programme will be published in print and online before the end of the month.

VolunteerTenterden Folk Day Trust is a registered charity formed in May 1994 to preserve and advance public education and appreciation of traditional and contemporary folk music, song, dance and other related traditions, crafts and folk arts as a part of the living heritage. The Trust is supported by Tenterden Town Council, Ashford Borough Council and Kent County Council and an increasing number of local and regional businesses and other community organisations.
The Trust and all its activities are run by the Trustees and a committee who are all unpaid volunteers. The festival depends on the support of a team of local and visting volunteers who act as stewards and workforce.
The 30th Tenterden Folk Festival will take place from the 5th to 8th October 2023.
As well as the annual four day festival the Trust also runs educational workshops in local schools, promotes a free monthy folk song and music session in Tenterden, promotes other occassional one off events, publishes the popular Around Kent Folk magazine in print and online, and acts as a local folk development organisation.
