The idea
The Museum of Spalding Gentlemen's Society is the second oldest in the country and has designated status.
Historic England has recommended that the the museum building's current 1960's rear extensions are demolished to save and then repair the grade 2 listed building. To do this the neighbouring building, the former Business Centre has been purchased to enable the demolition. Funding has been achieved to repair the front half of the current museum and the demolition of the rear extensions, but it leaves the museum with only half the exhibition space. This gives the opportunity to build a new, bigger and better extension and replace the former Business Centre, which is an eyesore in Broad Street conservation area. This crowd funding is to pay for the architects plans for the new extension and to enable the Society to bid for further large funds from the lottery and other funders to be able to build the new Museum extension
