By Spalding Gentlemen's Society
The Museum of Spalding Gentlemen's Society, needs architects plans for its future extension, replacing an eyesore in a conservation street and to enable it to bid to the lottery and other funders.
The Museum of Spalding Gentlemen's Society is the second oldest in the country and has designated status. Historic England has recommended that the the museum building's current 1960's rear extensions are demolished to save and then repair the grade 2 listed building. To do this the neighbouring building, the former Business Centre has been purchased to enable the demolition. Funding has been achieved to repair the front half of the current museum and the demolition of the rear extensions, but it leaves the museum with only half the exhibition space. This gives the opportunity to build a new, bigger and better extension and replace the former Business Centre, which is an eyesore in Broad Street conservation area. This crowd funding is to pay for the architects plans for the new extension and to enable the Society to bid for further large funds from the lottery and other funders to be able to build the new Museum extension
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The architects plans are needed to inform funders of the planned future of the museum, to fund this £7ml project. The future museum building will enhance the conservation area The future museum will be a fully open heritage, culture and learning centre for the whole community. The nationally important designated collection will be available for schools to visit and to enjoy workshops to enhance their curriculum. The extensive local history library - the Centre for Fenland Studies and the early library will be available for researchers. The future museum will attract visitors to the town The future museum will be a better work place for our volunteers The future museum will have a coffee shop The extension will make the whole Museum accessible The museum will have better climate control for the Collection using green technology.
