Carousel is a CIC, not-for-profit based in Rufford, Lancashire. Our organisation has been in operation for over 4 years now, running successful projects for adults with disabilities and dementia choirs
We use music, movement, singing and percussion activities because we know just how effective music can be at drawing people out and engaging with everyone around them.
It is a powerful tool, evoking memories that inspire communication with others. Our project brings that tool directly to the people who need it most. It is really lovely to see people who often stay within their own silent world smiling and joining in with the group. The growing evidence that singing and music stimulates brain function underpins every activity we employ.
Our fun, interactive, adaptable sessions are designed to:
- help reduce anxiety and depression
- minimise the behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia
- increase social interaction
- enhance quality of life
- evoke memories and encourage talking points.
In short we want people with dementia to keep socialising and interacting for as long as they possibly can and we know that music can help them do that.
