Louisa Bay Access Road project. As we can only feature 1 image here, For images of all the work done to date please follow this link : https://www.broadstairstownteam.org.uk/activities-what-s-happening-this-year/gardening-groups/ Our project aim: To regenerate the two overgrown and unkempt raised beds on the slope down to Louisa Bay, to create an oasis of plants and wildlife to be enjoyed by residents and visitors. This raised bed had not been regularly tended for a while. We initially thought it was planted and maintained intermittently by Thanet District Council Garden team. We subsequently discovered they were not responsible for maintaining this bed and our volunteers initially decided to take on the task of just tidying it up and pruning back overgrown plants. In autumn 2021 the volunteers decided this bed needed some serious renovation if it was to compliment the work they had all done on the slope. The volunteers started by pruning back the large Phormium plants that dominated the bed and cleared the debris and accumulated litter that had built up behind the plants. When they cut back the very overgrown osteospermum plants they discovered a rockery. This was replanted with donated osteospermum and Spring bulbs. The New “Phormium” Bed Spring 2022 Planting the Pillylea Augustifolia shrub 19 May Today this bed it is an integral part of the Louisa Bay Access Road Project. The Louisa Access Road story has been widely publicised. We have had an article published in the South & South East in Bloom newsletter and an article in will appear in the next Broadstairs Society newsletter due out in June. The Crocus Bed – planted by the Town Team Garden Group in collaboration with Broadstairs Rotary to celebrate world Polio Day in October 2020, is also an integral part of the Louisa Bay Access Road project.

SO excited we have not just hit, but exceeded our original target amount.. This means we can afford to do more5 years ago

The other 7 beds that Town Team maintain in and around Broadstairs will benefit hugely too. We always struggle for funding for plants, materials and equipment as we have no regular funding or sponsorship, so any money raised over and above our target will be shared equally with those sites over the coming year too. Double win! If you have friends or family that would ,like to support the work our volunteers do in Broadstairs, please consider sharing the link to this page with them, we have until next Wednesday, 30th to complete our Spacehive funding activity. Thanks all.

Thank You all SO much.5 years ago

We have hit our original fundraising target, which is amazing. Thanks to Kent Crowdfund for backing our project yesterday too. We know from your feedback just how many local people support the work we do in and around Broadstairs at various garden sites, whether donating time or funding. So we can continue and ensure all the sites are sustainable, we'll be down at Louisa Bay on Saturday collecting cash donations too as many people have contacted us to fund out how to support our work. All funds over our original target for LBAR will be put to great use and will support and sustain the other 7 sites our wonderful volunteers maintain. We're so happy and garteful to live in a place where community comes together to do positive things,.

It's a bit damp today, but drier and warmer days will encourage bees, as will our choices of planting
