About the Project Creator
Pendle Ski Club is a volunteer run Ski club on the beautiful scenic Pendle Hill. We are run by a committee of volunteers and lessons are all taught be fully qualified volunteer instructors. This means Pendle is much more than a Ski Club but also a place you can gain expereince of leadership, mentoring, negotiation and so much more. Many volunteers use their skiils and expereince to support university and job applications.
We have recently elected our youth committee to support and feedback to the existing commitee.. To provide an additional development opportunity for the amazing young people who bring so much to the club. Their first project has been to mastermind this fundrasing bid.
We run lessons to cater for all ski abilities across our two slopes from total beginners to advanced racers who are competing on a national level. We are incredilby proud to be the grass roots club of Dave Ryding Kitzbuhel World Cup champion and Olympian, David Corr Gold Medalist Junior Special Olympics, Charlotte Holmes Junior Overall Apline Champion and Rob Holmes GB Wolrd Junior Championship competitor. Also Elanor Eves who was recently voted Snow Sport Englands Young Volunteer of the Year.
We run lessons weekly for all levels of Skier from October to May and Race Training all year round. Pendle is a great place to meet new people, make new friends and try something different. All while improving your physical and mental well-being.
Whole families can train and ski together. We have many families where two or three generations are all learning and developing side by side. One of teenage racers recruited his Granddad to the race squad a couple of years ago. This has started a trend where slowly more and more parents and other adults are competing in our monthly Winter Race league. It's fantastic to see not only the youth categories but the also the under 99 category full of competitors.
Having raced on the fun circuit for a couple of years he entered his first national competition this summer and came third in the MAS category.
We are passionate about making sport as accessbile as possible. Just this season we have started a £10 membership for University Students to be able to ski when home in the hoilidays. To try to prvent sport drop out at 18. Also some of our female istructors have volunteered to help SSE research into barriers to female instructors in sport.
