To buy and replace 100 mats on the ski slope at Pendle Ski Club. This will ensure we can continue to provide a high quality ski opportunities to the public.
We want 100 new Skitech Diamond Mats to be used on our main slope on Pendle Hill near Sabden in the Ribble Valley The mats are green in colour to ensure that they blend with the beautiful natural environment of Pendle Hill. This means from a distance the slope is not visible and the wonderful natural environment is preserved. The mats are made from PVB bristles looped around steel wire, then crimped onto sections which are made into lengths and jointed together with stainless steel. These are joined together in 16's to make mats. This is the perfect material to edge into and ski with confidence whatever your ability. The diamond shape of the mats offers a good stable terrain for those who are just starting to learn but also slalom gates can be safely into the matting so we can train all ages to race at every level. We are incredibly proud to be the grass root Club of Dave Ryding, David Corr, Robert Holmes and Charlotte Holmes. We have a team of volunteers ready to fit them.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
New mating is easier to ski on and means that every skier is able to develop new skills quicker. Boosting everyone's sense of achievement. It means less fitness and strength is required to preform skiing tasks meaning new skiers can fall in love with the sport quicker. The adaptive equipment used by our Disability Snow Sport group can be used most effectively leading to increased confidence. The club funds the training costs of any Pendle Skier wanting to instruct. New mating would make it easier to develop your personal skiing to the standard required to pass the assessments for Snow Sport England. It enables us to host regional and national competitions providing opportunity for high level skiers to compete and revenue for near by local businesses as competitors travel and stay in the area using local bed and breakfasts, hotels, restaurants and cafes. To continue our passionate campaign that skiing is an amazing weekly hobby for everyone not an exclusive holiday.
Steps to get it done:
We offer lessons for total novices through to skiers who compete internationally and ensure all participants are given the same high quality experience. We offer age based and mixed aged lessons so whole families or groups of friends can learn together. Skiing is brilliant for both physical and mental well-being. Skiing at Pendle offers a great opportunity to meet, get to know new people and celebrate each others success in a group setting. While developing and learning new skills at your own pace. Pendle Ski Club has over twenty qualified instructors. We fund training of instructors from the age of 15 upwards and have also supported young people to get their Duke of Edinburgh award. This means we have a great team of volunteer instructors who treat every skier as an individual and adapt numbers to the individuals and conditions. Enjoyment and progression are how we measure success.
