More about our impact
The environment
By purchasing kit for our local community to have access to, it decreases the amount of stuff people themselves need to purchase in order to be creative thereby offsetting material use in the wider world and contributing to a circular economy of sharing of kit.
The local economy
By purchasing equipment that members of the community can use, we have lowered the barrier of entry into filmmaking that people within the creative industry and from lower economic backgrounds face. This kit will help people to tell their stories and the knowledge gained through the workshops we ran contributes to educating the local community which in turns helps the economy.
Volunteering, jobs & education
The workshops that we provided increased the awareness of free and accessible training in filmmaking to those living in the North East. Because the workshops were led by those who had significant or professional experience within their topic, attendees of this project were able to gain valuable insights and tools to help in their creative journeys. The knowledge and now access to kit can will be able to provide attendees with a chance to build their portfolios of film work, thereby leading to job opportunities within the creative industries. The film project saw an opportunity to provide work experience for a young person who joined in the filming and got hands on experience being on a film set. Of those that signed up to take the workshops, 17 said it was a way for them to upskill for a job which we think is amazing to see!
Arts, culture & heritage
The local community now have access to the full suite of filmmaking tools from camera, sound to post production editing. These tools have enabled the community to create a film from start to finish. With this access to kit, people from disadvantaged backgrounds who might not have the funds, can now tell more stories and the quality of those stories can be increased as well.
Activity, health and leisure
With the workshops and filming of this project, it saw members of the community engage in hands on activities which got their bodies up and moving. For example, during the camera workshops, attendees were able to put on steady camera vests and walk around with a camera. During the sound workshops, members were able to hold and record using boom poles. The mix of physical as well as mental learning is beneficial and promotional of people's health and also built a since of community.
