A Van for Love, Amelia
We are helping more and more families in our community with essential items for their babies and children. We need a van to collect donations and help deliver referrals to families
About the Project Creator
Love, Amelia is a children’s charity set up to offer practical support families who are living in very challenging situations often attributed to poverty and financial hardship, illness or crisis. Our charity is named it in memory of our founders daughter Amelia, who passed away 12minutes after her birth in 2018 at Sunderland Hospital. Her parents founded the charity in her name to help support local children in need in the community. Since becoming a registered charity in 2019, we have supported over 3000 children and have been working to create a circular economy whereby we collect donations of preloved items and distribute to children who need them most. We pride ourselves on passing on items in great condition and would only distribute items we would be happy for our own children to use. All items are cleaned and, where necessary, safety checked.
We currently support children from birth to 11 years however in 2022 we are extending this further to support children up to 16 years who are experiencing poverty and deprivation as there remains a gap in provision for this age group.
We are a small team with lived experience of the issues the families we support are facing. We strongly believe that every child deserves equal opportunities, and all families should have access to the essential and practical items they need to raise their children. A child needs to have their basic needs met to then enable them to have their more complex needs fulfilled as they grow up. No child should be without nappies or a safe place to sleep at night.
