Wellbeing at the centre of everything we do
Canterbury Umbrella provides resources, knowledge and unwavering support for the social and mental health of its community. We are deeply committed to providing a safety net to prevent people from reaching a crisis point and then enabling them to build up resiliance to the obsticles and challenges they face.
Umbrella's vision is to protect people from the "storms" of like and provide people with the necessary resources, skills and positive outlook to face and weather difficulties whenever possible. "Wellbeing at the centre of everything we do"
The Umbrella Centre is a social community hub and a registered "Warm Welcome Space". We provide a safe space and environment for our local community and beyond. Our socil cafe and lounge area is open to all. It provides a warm place where people come to relax, work, study, meet and make friends whilst enjoying a drink or a nutritious reasonably priced meal or snack.
The Centre also runs a range of courses, activities and discussion groups depending on the interest and needs of the community. Activities/courses currently running include health and wellbeing courses, art and cultural activities and various "one-off" events. We also signpost to agencies or other charities for more specific support where needed.
Most avtivities are led by volunteers, many of whom have themselves been helped by coming to the centre, and then continue to come to help others.
