More about our impact
The environment
The squirrel proof bird feeders and large quantity of various foods, fat balls and nuts have encouraged a much larger number of small birds than we had before they were installed. We see them and hear them singing but it is very difficult to catch a photo of them. The butterfly count was an excellent exercise which has helped our volunteers and visitors learn what the different butterflies are and identify the different times of day and year they appear. The tree carvings have greatly increased the number of people visiting the cemetery to take a closer look.
Volunteering, jobs & education
Our presentations and adverts for more volunteers has successfully procured five new and dedicated volunteers.
Arts, culture & heritage
We had over 30 visitors to our Spring Open Day and Tour and a further 25 different visitors to our Summer Open Day and Tour. We have carried out two presentations with a third to happen in October. A further open day and tour will take place in September followed by a Remembrance Gathering in November.
Activity, health and leisure
The simple basic gardening skills are all that are required for working as a volunteer in Heene Cemetery and many of our new volunteers are local Heene people who live in flats and appreciate the chance of working in a quiet peaceful area without any stress or targets to reach!
