Cotton Shed is an inclusive theatre company based in Rossendale, East Lancashire. Set up in 2007. We imagine a world where all people regardless of background, age, or ability can have positive and supportive access to the world of theatre. By championing inclusivity, we create a radical space that knows no bounds, develops production without barriers, and envisions a world with no ‘normal’.
We are committed to member-led theatre that pushes boundaries and celebrates diversity. Through collaboration and support, we provide a platform to challenge societal norms and break down barriers. The theatre we create is always innovative as it's fundamental that each production stays rooted in the ideas and creativity of our members, allowing their visions to shape the work that Cotton Shed brings to life.
Being part of Cotton Shed means belonging to a community where meaningful connections are made and every voice matters. We offer weekly inclusive theatre workshops across the Rossendale Valley, catering to a range of ages: Beginners (4-7 years), Children’s (8-11 years), Youth (12-16 years), and Company (16+). These workshops encourage social inclusion, build confidence, and empower participants to know their voice and identity are valuable and strong. Through participation in our weekly sessions, we prepare our members to navigate the world with self-assurance; knowing that they matter.
Our weekly sessions have a huge impact on the lives of people living in Rossendale as we know that when people from all backgrounds and with all abilities come together, acceptance and inclusion is embedded, creating a more positive community.
