The idea
Cotton Shed is an inclusive theatre company based in Rossendale which has served the community for sixteen years, providing a safe environment that celebrates everyone’s unique talents.
Cotton Shed is based on the belief that everyone can thrive when everyone is included. Our work brings together people from all socioeconomic backgrounds, cultures and abilities to work creatively alongside each other. We provide weekly workshops for all age groups as well as facilitating the creation and performance of various productions led by our members. Our goal is that if you come to any of our workshops or performances, you will feel welcome and recognise someone just like you in the room or on the stage!
What we'll deliver
- Inclusive Theatre Workshops for ages 4 and above
- Performance opportunities and productions for the local community
Why it's a great idea
At our workshops, participants have the opportunity to develop confidence with drama, singing and movement skills. Everyone is encouraged to contribute ideas at their own level and to engage with activities at their own pace. Our aim is to bring creative inclusion in a supportive environment. All our members work together to devise and perform pieces that matter to them. These workshops not only provide the chance to learn new skills but also to give people a chance to socialise and make new friends as well as give a voice to people who may not feel heard in other environments. Theatre can often seem off-limits to many people and our work aims to break that barrier.
At Cotton Shed, the people are the theatre.
