Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

Martialfinesse is a social enterprise designed to offer a safe space/gym for our community and in particular our youth, to train in a sporting and mixed martial arts environment. This will be facilitated by hands on staff qualified in their respective sports/martial arts field. For the purpose of teaching/training/mentoring in the premises. The martial arts and fitness classes will be structured and delivered in 2 different ways: 1. Classes will be open to the general public in the community/area to participate in. 2. Specially identified clients who are identified through referral from external agencies, from both local government and 3rd party organisations. The goal of Martialfinesse is to prevent negative behaviour, prevent crime, instil discipline, self belief, healthy living, confidence, and to realise the participants self worth and true potential. To also offer accredited courses ie: level 2 gym instructors courses and nutrition for those engaging in the project.

What we'll deliver:

  • Pay for vital and neccessary gym equipment.
  • To bring the gym to health and safety, fire regulation standard, and all other legal requirements
  • Pay a living wage in order to administrate and staff the premises

Why it's a great idea:

Having identified a urgent need for this type of positive environment in the area. Blighted by high crime rate, and drugs and youth crime/culture, and no where to go for those affected directly and indirectly by this. There is a need for this type of platform. A place where healthy living/fitness/discipline is of paramount importance. Where those who engage can learn and train in a place of safety. Around qualified trainers/teachers/role models/people who have a genuine interest and care for the welfare of those around them in their community. This platform will give the public and those identified the facilities/environment to be able to grow and benefit from all of the key points highlighted above. This will in turn better and empower the community by having a positive effect on them and the adjacent area. The more people use the facilities, the less those targeted are on the streets. This will also give those who engage a sense of community unity!

Steps to get it done:

  • Once funded Martialfinesse will secure all necessary equipment to make our community gym viable and practical

There is a high youth crime rate in the area because of a lack of positive activities that inspire and harmonise our youth, and our community. The idea behind this gym is to offer a very safe and positive learning environment where people can go and feel a sense of reward and achievement. I know the positive effects that this type of environment can have on the individual and therefore have inspiration and extra drive to see it work. This project has a special significance for me, because of my own experiences and lack of role models growing up.The momentum of this project works because of the skill set and unique experiences of those directly involved, and also the need for a project of this nature. An important point going forward is the space we are trying to develop is not only focused on fitness and martial art classes but also offering accredited courses, eg nutrition foundation/diploma and gym instructors and referrals of groups of individuals in particular young people.
