More about our impact
The local economy
Bringing visitors into Town from the length and breadth of the Uk and presenting events in town centre pubs
Volunteering, jobs & education
We draw from a team of approximatley 50 volunteers recruited both locally and nationally without whom the festival could not function. Workshops for singing and intrument techniques help develop peronal abilities and improve performances.
Arts, culture & heritage
Providing perfomance opportunities for local performers and dance troups. Presenting traditional dance and song halps keep the tradition rolling on.
Activity, health and leisure
Cleckheaton Folk Festival 2022 was the 33rd annual festival which had been postponed in 2020 and 2021. It continues to be one of the biggest annual cultural events in North Kirklees and has brought many benefits to the town itself, as well as to residents of Cleckheaton and surrounding area. The Festival attracts visitors to the area who would otherwise have no reason to visit the local area. This benefits the town’s businesses - results from the 2019 questionnaire indicated that the average spend per head by visitors to the folk events was of the order of £100. In previous years the organisers have developed a thriving “fringe” of free events and although some of the free events were scaled down it still attracted thousands of people from local towns and villages who came along to enjoy the street entertainment, children’s activities, singarounds and musicians sessions etc. which bring the town alive. The Sunday fun-day events are aimed at children and young people and include the opportunity to participate in new skills e.g. circus skills
