Cleckheaton Folk Festival was founded in 1987 by a group of local folk enthusiasts, including Geoff Pickles who remained Festival Director for the first 21 Festivals. In 2004, the Festival incorporated as a company limited guarantee under the name of Cleckheaton Folk Festival Organisation Limited. Based in the West Yorkshire market town of Cleckheaton, Cleckheaton Folk Festival (CFF) is a small, friendly Festival that aims to bring the “folk family” together each year in a celebration of British folk traditions by:
- Bringing the best folk talent to the town
- Attracting audiences from across the UK and abroad
- Celebrating Cleckheaton’s people and places
- Involving local people
Board of Directors; CFF has a long standing and highly experienced Board of 7 voluntary Directors, most of whom are based locally. They are led by Geoff Pickles - Chair, Dave Minich - Festival Director, and Kathy Aveyard - Company Secretary/Treasurer. The Festival is run entirely on a voluntary basis by the Board of Directors and volunteer Committee Members. Cleckheaton Folk Festival has no permanent staff and no permanent base.
