By Boishakhi
Bengalis have celebrated the Bengali new year by organizing a traditional fair (Mela) that's called “Boishakhi Mela”. It is a reflection of the secular social system that existed in Bangladesh.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
The Boishakhi Mela will be observed with Cultural programs, festivals and Carnivals all around the City. The fair will be held in an open space where all people irrespective of race, religion and caste will have the opportunity to participate. Over 10,000 Bangladeshis live in and around Leicester. Moreover many Indians and Pakistanis live here as well. We will try to highlight the integrated culture of Bangladesh, India and Pakistan to encourage the people of Bangladesh, India and Pakistan to come together. Bengali, Hindi and Urdu songs will be performed there. Traditional Asian food, dresses and culture will be on display. There will be equipment for children to play and have fun.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The Boishakhi Mela is basically a reflection of the secular social system that existed in Bangladesh from the colonial period. It will bring together all community groups irrespective of their religious faith and help to improve their relations. Bengali speaking people live in different parts of India besides Bangladesh. This fair will bind the Bengalis of these two countries in the same social bond who live in and around Leicester. Absolutely people will enjoy the day.
