ABRA is the Arlingford and Brailsford Road Residents Association. These 2 roads are in Brixton and form a self contaoined cul-de sac bordered by Tulse Hill, Brixton Water Lane and Brockwell Park in the London borough of Lambeth. The streets are made up of 3 story Victorian brick terraced housing - about 152 houses in total. The majority of these (est 90%) are split into 3 seperate flats, one one each floor. There are a total of around 425 households and about 800 residents. The mix of tenancies are estimated at around 15% privately owned, 15% privately rented and the remaining 70% council rented or housing association rented. ABRA also looks to represent the the tenants and businesses that border our streets on Tulse Hill and Brixton Water Lane.
Our residents association is concerned with the street environment, safety and crime (we have our good share of socila problems and the police are in attendance regularly), flytipping (a huge problem), organising social events and street parties (when allowed) and the upkeep and improvment of our Community Garden, which provides those with no outside private outside space (around 60% of our residents) a place to rest, relax, grow food and do gardening, socialise (when allowed) and excercise. The space has been partiuclarly important during the Covid pandemic.
We have no formal means of funding. We do apply to the various funds that are available and have succeeded in being awarded £750 from the Hoopla festival in Brockwell Park, which is still available to us,
