The idea

This project will create a digital resource hub to support local mothers returning to the workforce. It will provide clear pathways to upskilling, CV support, employer connections and flexible job opportunities. The aim is to remove barriers that prevent mothers from accessing meaningful work that fits around school hours and family responsibilities.

The hub will improve employment readiness, confidence, and access to training while giving employers a simple way to engage with reliable local talent. This resource is needed in our area, where many mothers struggle to find roles compatible with family responsibilities.

Mums Hub is led by a community-driven founder with first-hand experience of these challenges and strong relationships with local families and employers. The project will be delivered through an accessible online platform, ensuring wide reach and long-term community benefit.

What we'll deliver

  • A user-friendly digital resource hub with clear pathways for mums returning to work
  • Individual Plans to help mums identify their skills, goals and next steps toward work or education
  • Employers Toolkit explaining flexible options, job-share arrangements and how to support school-hours roles
  • A clear directory of local upskilling providers and training routes for mums who want to build skills
  • Outreach materials (printed and digital) to connect mums with the hub and with existing community supports
  • Basic CV support tools and templates, with signposting to local job-readiness services

Why it's a great idea

This project will support local mothers by improving access to employment pathways, local upskilling providers and flexible job opportunities. The digital hub will signpost mums to courses and training offered by local adult education services, community colleges and skills programmes, while also offering CV support and links to flexible employers. This improves job readiness, confidence and access to meaningful employment.

The benefits extend across the community. Employers gain access to skilled, motivated candidates who are often excluded from traditional recruitment channels. Families experience greater financial stability when mothers can access work aligned with school hours.

By connecting mothers with existing education providers and nearby employers, this project strengthens local participation in work and ensures long-term community benefit.

Steps to get it done

  • Set up project broadband and digital tools needed to build and manage the online hub
  • Create the digital resource hub structure, including main pages and user pathways
  • Design CV templates, Individual Plan templates, and guidance materials
  • Compile a directory of local upskilling and adult education providers
  • Develop the Employers Toolkit and job-share guidance
  • Design and print outreach materials to share the hub with local mums
  • Launch the digital hub and begin outreach to mums in the community
