Siobhán Maher grew up on Montpelier Hill in Dublin. Although chronically dyslexic throughout her school years, she completed diplomas and degrees and finally graduated as Dr Siobhán with a PhD in Food Science and Technology from University College Cork in 2004.
Many years of working in the food industry left Siobhán unwell, so she transitioned her career when her first baby arrived. After achieving a diploma in complementary therapy, Siobhán began working happily from home. As a kinesiologist, Siobhán found a way to overcome her daily dyslexic issues and live a more relaxed life.
This life shapeshift rekindled Siobhán's smile and passion for writing. She swapped scientific journals and thesis writing for her love of poetry. Off-the-cuff rhyming poems and stories to sweeten her children’s bedtime routine broadened into poetry for adult mindfulness.
In 2022, the author developed a dream to marry her passion for nature photography (using her Canon Powershot) with her love for creating poetry, to create the book Journeying – Photopoetry to Revive Your Soul.
While Siobhán is compiling another photopoetry book, her last year has been dedicated to editing book 1 of a historical fiction trilogy. This story is based on the tragic lives of Ireland’s renowned, yet unknown, Molesworth and Rochfort families in the 1700s.
In March 2024, Siobhan opened Writers Café Atop a Hill in Rathfarnham, Dublin. It is open every Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and welcomes everyone, regardless of their writing level, to join us. P.S. There will be cake!
