Christian Community Action provides support for individuals and households in Reading who are in need of emergency furniture, bedding and kitchen items. Promoting environmental sustainability for individuals, communities and the environment.
What do we do?
Since 1992 CCA has been providing essential household items for people in need in Reading and surrounding areas. We are an ecumenical christian organisation based locally working with many denominations and working with people of all faiths and none.
CCA provides support for individuals and households in Reading who are in need of emergency furniture, bedding and kitchen items. We do this through reusing and repairing donations of furniture, clothing, bric-a-brac and household goods. We provide furniture and bedding and kitchen starter packs to our clients at greatly discounted prices. Our work is supported by our 3 Charity Shops in Oxford Road, Southcote and Sonning Common. In addition we currently sell furniture at our Furniture Shop Northumberland Avenue.
We also run a popular drop in lunch service for homeless or vulnerably housed people in Caversham. In doing so we are also helping to protect the environment and reduce the needless dumping of good quality furniture. In addition we support those with social, mental health, addiction or other issues who are looking to get back into paid employment. This is done through work placements at our actions and support centres located across Reading. We take referrals from a wide range of local organisations to provide meaningful opportunities to overcome barriers to employment.
