The idea
Wildwood Days will work with Music for All Brinscall and Treley Burch in collaboration with Horse & Bamboo to create a fantastic musical and artistic experience for local families. The festival will be hosted at our magical forest school site in Brinscall woods and involve bird themed music workshops, performances, craft activities and marshmallow toasting around the campfire.
The festival is themed around 'The Meeting of the Birds' - Explore the sounds, lives, myths and nests of a range of local birds (wren, robin, swallow & heron) through story, music, song and craft. The activities are aimed at 3 to 7 year olds, but are suitable for the whole family to enjoy together. Discover out what these local birds sound like and how they move, playing with musical instruments to make their calls and represent their flight. The music workshops will be held on Sundays in May, leading up to the grand finale 'meeting of the birds' on the day of the festival - Sunday 28th May.
What we'll deliver
- Four 2 hour musical workshops for families in the run up to the festival
- One woodland festival day full of musical & creative activities
- Musical instruments & tuition provided by Music For All in the workshops and festival
- Bird themed story/music/song/craft sessions provided by Treley Burch
- Refreshments (tea, cake, marshmallows) provided by Wildwood Days
- Themed forest school crafty activities provided by Wildwood Days
Why it's a great idea
The workshops and the festival will bring arts activities to local families in an accessible and attractive way. Events like this increase community cohesion and help people feel more connected to their local environment. Collaborating with 3 CICs means we can reach new audiences and hopefully introduce families to the creative arts and/or the benefits of outdoor activities that might not have experienced them before. Local families who may find it hard to travel will be able to access unique music & drama activities on their doorstep.
Steps to get it done
- Set dates for workshops and festival and promote event on social media
- Get people booked on to workshops and festival
- Deliver 4 music workshops in run up to festival (30 - 40 people per workshop)
- Deliver community woodland festival (200+ people)
The festival will be as environmentally friendly as possible as all 3 CICs involved are very eco-conscious. Wildwood Days (the site hosting the festival) is off grid, has a composting toilet and reuses & recycles as much as we can.
