More about our impact
The environment
We encouraged people to walk to the festival or take public transport . As a consequence our car parking was cut by half and we estimate 79/200 people surveyed feel more active from attending the festival. We ran a steps competition and encouraged walking to the park rather than driving . Here is a typical sample of the steps per person , anything between 6,000-20000 steps . By having 2 festival stages and separate concessions folk were walking over 9 hours to and from the park and across the festival area. Up to 3000 folk dancing over 9 hours
Volunteering, jobs & education
14 people front of house 9AM – 9PM doing things such as car parking, front of house and helping event run smoothly. Plus all but 3 of the bands . On is approx 70 plus musicians volunteering their services.
Arts, culture & heritage
People are proud of town – people proud to come out to festival and enjoy socialising with other residents The festival was supported by residents, local businesses, town, sponsors, local businesses pledged, school sponsored event, local artists attended and economy of town on the day as more people attending that would any other Sunday. Over 4000 local folk attending a music festival in the local park for 9 hours , meeting friends old and new and just having a great day out which is our core objective and remains the reason we volunteer to do this festival every year . Our artists request to come back each year to increase their profile and fan numbers on their own social media accounts and bookings .
Activity, health and leisure
WE encouraged people to walk to the park and measured the average steps per person Some one from the Village hotel was supposed to be hosting an exercise session – they cancelled so they tried to book arm chair disco –how ever that wasn’t available – so they encouraged people to walk steps and hosted a competition. Also all audience members were encouraged through out the day to dance, sing, move to all the music taking place from 12noon – 9pm The steps records and low car parking this year showed an increase in pedestrian attendance and movement over the day on average 6-9k steps per person , That’s up to 36,180.000 steps on one day for one event .
