Wend and Wild is a Community Interest Company rooted in the belief that tending green spaces can nurture not only plants, but also people and community. We grow plants from seed to support local spaces, improve wellbeing, and foster a quiet sense of belonging through nature, beauty, and shared purpose.
Founded in Whittington, Shropshire, Wend and Wild is for those who feel most at home with soil on their hands and time to be in connection with nature. We focus on gentle, inclusive community involvement, especially for people who prefer to contribute in quieter ways. Whether it’s growing a tray of seedlings in a back garden, donating surplus plants, or helping maintain a shared space, we aim to make it easy for people to get involved at a pace that suits them.
Our work is guided by a deep respect for land, history, and community. We believe that when we tend a space with intention, we strengthen our relationship to place, to each other, and to ourselves. The spaces we support are more than just planted borders - they are invitations to pause, reflect, and feel part of something meaningful.
Wend and Wild is particularly focused on supporting public and community spaces that might otherwise fall into neglect due to funding pressures. We work collaboratively with parish councils, community groups, and residents to improve these areas in a way that is sustainable, inclusive, and beautiful. We also raise funds through community plant sales, offering plants grown by local residents who want to contribute in a quiet, meaningful way. Over time, we hope to grow this into a sustainable model of shared care, where community-grown plants help support the upkeep and improvement of local spaces year after year.
Our first major project has been the Whittington Garden of Remembrance, where we are helping to refresh planting, improve access, and create a digital storytelling archive that honours the heritage of the site and the voices of local residents. We see this as a model for how community-led stewardship can bring neglected or overlooked places back into focus - not through big gestures, but through steady, seasonal work and shared intention.
At heart, Wend and Wild is about the quiet power of tending - to land, to story, and to each other. We believe that small, thoughtful acts can build beauty and connection that lasts.
