Creating a Cherry Tree Walk @ West Acton
To create a peaceful Cherry Tree Walk and Wildflower Meadow on our central reservation. We want to make it beautiful again and restore its heritage!
About the Project Creator
We are a self-managed estate in west London, covering just over 600 houses and flats. HHGERA is open to everyone who lives here and looks after the shared gardens and service roads belonging to the estate. We do so on a shoestring, as the £70 a year charge for each house barely covers the minimum routine maintenance plus essentials such as insurance. Separate funding must be raised for any improvements. Our most ambitious project to date was to restore a badly overgrown central garden, between two sides of Princes Gardens. We crowd funded this through Spacehive and successfully implemented the project. Literally tons of dead and dying trees and shrubs were removed and an old rockery was cleared with the help of a digger. Road safety was improved through opening up the crossing points. 25 new trees and dozens of shrubs were planted, along with areas of wildflower meadow and a rose bed at the southern end of Princes Gardens. Now we are launching a new project, to restore a sadly run down Rose Garden. We want to make this a safe, beautiful place that will enhance biodiversity and be a focus for community events in the future.
