West Reading Cricket Club are a very active local cricket club. Each week in the summer we provide cricket matches for around 75 people. On top of this, we provide cricket coaching for children, running the All Stars programme for 5 to 7 year olds, and the Dynamos programme for 8 to 11 year olds, and we also have an Under-19 team. As a result of the coronavirus, we are currently looking at a summer where we may be unable to have any income whatsoever, without membership fees, sponsorship, etc. In fact, it is likely that we will miss our on almost £10,000 that we would have generated under normal circumstances. It will be a real shame for local cricket if we were to have to reduce our offer to the community in the future, or even give up playing completely, due to a lack of funding. Please give whatever you can spare to ensure that we are able to resume cricket to the same extent as before, and in a timely manner, once the pandemic has passed.

What we'll deliver:

  • Resume cricket immediately after the pandemic
  • No reduction in the number of teams we offer
  • Continue offering junior cricket: All Stars (5-7), Dynamos (8-11) & Under-19s

Why it's a great idea:

Once this pandemic has disappeared, it is likely that people with be very keen for opportunities to play sport, socialise, strengthen their community and encourage their children to get involved as well. However, in order to do this, we will require our network of amateur sports clubs to be just as strong, if not stronger, than they were before. Unfortunately, clubs will be facing massive shortages of income, which may hinder or prevent their efforts to help our society get back on its feet and return to the sort of active, healthy activities that we have all been missing so much. The more we are able to raise, the better the position that West Reading CC will be in to provide the maximum possible opportunity for as many people as possible to enjoy our summer game in the future.

Steps to get it done:

  • Be able to enter at least as many league teams next season.
  • Continue to offer as many junior coaching and playing opportunities in 2021.
