More about our impact
The environment
The project didn't have any direct environmental benefit.
The local economy
Where possible we sourced paint and materials through local outlets and hired venues in Lancaster to host the workshops.
Volunteering, jobs & education
The project was able to employ a session assistant and a support worker to assist with the workshops, thanks to the Spacehive funding.
Arts, culture & heritage
By showing the ability of ordinary people to connect with art by making and through exploration of the world of art, the project has shown just how accessible art is for orinary people; what its positive benefits can be on a personal level, how it is possible to devlop skills in this area that can be a lifelong asset to the particiapnts. By exhbiting the work works in Lancaster Library, a well used venue accessible to all, this message has been disseminated to a much wider audience locally, showing the joy and accessibility of art to all.
Activity, health and leisure
By creating a non-judgmental workshop space the participants were able to freely explore their own methods of working with paint and presented with opportunities to experiment with different techniques whilst also encouraging the development of their own visual imagery. This was facilitated by them being provided with their own paint, brushes and paper to take away and work with. The skills they have learned will be a benefit in their leisure lives for years to come promoting self reliance and positive self esteem. Engaging with art and the making of it has also been shown to be useful in promoting good mental health, through confidence in skill building and exploring self expression through the medium of art.
