The idea
Our plan is to increase the delivery of online/digital provisions for young people and particularly those with SEN (Special Educational Needs) and offer a phased return to direct face-to-face provisions while adhering to government guidelines during the covid-19 crisis and transitioning into a post-covid-19 environment.
These sessions will particularly target those of our beneficiaries who are unable to or remain uncomfortable in attending direct face to face session. We will also utilise this mechanism to reach out to those who have not previously participated in our activities and are unlikely to access such provisions even if there was no covid-19 crisis. As stigma and misunderstanding about SEN is prominent among sections of our community – contributing to loneliness, isolation and reduced quality of life of such young people.
In parallel to the online activities, we will offer 4 sessions of sports and physical activities each week using outdoor spaces and large indoor venues.
What we'll deliver
- Hire Sessional staff
- Venue hire fee for activities
- Deliver regular physical activities sessions for young people
Why it's a great idea
These sessions will particularly target those of our beneficiaries who are unable to or remain uncomfortable in attending direct face to face session (see below). We will also utilise this mechanism to reach out to those who have not previously participated in our activities and are unlikely to access such provisions even if there was no covid-19 crisis. As stigma and misunderstanding about SEND is prominent among sections of our community – contributing to loneliness, isolation and reduced quality of life of such young people - we will aim to penetrate some of this through wide-ranging publicity of sessions and catering for those children and young people who would otherwise completely miss out on such opportunities.
Steps to get it done
- We will recruit up to 6 volunteers (with mild to moderate learning disability)
In parallel to the online activities, we will offer 4 sessions of sports and physical activities each week using outdoor spaces and large indoor venues. These sessions will cater for six young people and their respective carer initially (based on current 2 meter social distancing guideline) and the young people will primarily undertake their activities with their respective carers, rather than with other young people and their carers. As indicated, we will follow government guidelines set at the time, including maintaining the social distancing guidance and adhering to strict hygiene measures, for example, regular cleaning of equipment, ensuring staff, volunteers and participants wash/sanitise their hands before and after sessions.
