The idea
Over the summer, 50 young people from Ponders End and Edmonton were trained as UnMute: Young Mental Health Ambassadors.
UnMute is a youth-led mental health programme that helps young people in Enfield explore identity, resilience, and wellbeing. Through workshops, peer mentoring, and creative storytelling, participants have learned to lead conversations that challenge stigma and celebrate community strength.
Now, we want to take their voices even further. This campaign will fund a social media storytelling project and create paid public speaking and facilitation opportunities for local young people.
They’ll share their experiences through platforms that reach their peers across Enfield - building skills in communication and advocacy while being fairly paid for their work.
By supporting this project, you’ll help amplify real youth voices, open doors to leadership, and spark honest, inclusive conversations about mental health that create lasting change in our community.
What we'll deliver
- Produce 20 youth-led social media videos sharing authentic mental health stories.
- Offer 4 paid public speaking placements, supported by trained staff.
- Offer 10 paid facilitation placements for local youth to co-host workshops and community discussions.
- Launch a digital showcase celebrating the stories and achievements of participants, shared across community channels.
Why it's a great idea
This project will create real opportunities for young people in Enfield to share their mental health journeys, build confidence, and shape change in their own communities. By providing paid public speaking and facilitation roles, local youth will gain leadership experience, communication skills, and a platform to influence how mental health is understood across the borough.
Our research and feedback shows that young people want more safe, respectful spaces to talk about wellbeing in ways that reflect their culture and lived experiences. One participant said, “thank you for allowing us to have a safe place for us to share anything, where we can grow our skills and interact with the community”.
The wider community will benefit through stronger connections between generations, increased awareness of local mental health support, and a more positive conversation around youth. By investing in this project, you’re helping our community grow into a more inclusive and empathetic place.
