Tyne Rivers Trust is the only independent environmental charity (No: 1107358) dedicated to the protection and improvement of the Tyne Rivers. This includes the rivers North Tyne, South Tyne, Allen, Derwent, Ouseburn and Team and covers an area of almost 3,000km².
We work with local communities, specialist contractors, statutory authorities and like-minded organisations to tackle pollution, deliver practical conservation and to educate all about the river and its benefits. Our work is guided by the principle that a better river ultimately leads to a better life and a better region. We affect positive change by working with the local communities and applying our scientific knowledge and environmental skills.
We have provided small-scale outdoor and classroom-based learning activities for over 10 years. In 2018 and 2019, we have worked with 15 schools, reaching 1146 schoolchildren. The feedback we receive from children and teachers is always very positive and highlights the benefits of our ‘River School’. Corbridge Middle School say, “working with TRT has been an incredible experience…learning about habitats outside of the classroom is enriching, engaging and highly enjoyable”.
