Trees Please to improve our Streets

Trees Please to improve our Streets

Paul Savage By Paul Savage

We need trees to help improve our streets. Trees provide shade in increasingly high temp summers and are a natural way to absorb rainfall streets, whilst providing a year round habitat for birds.

Ilford Delivery stage

£10,140
pledged of £23,843

Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

Our local streets are drab and lifeless, the developers' promises of implementing green spaces have been left unfulfilled. We want to introduce evergreen trees in XL pots, an initiative with compelling benefits: • Carbon Capture These trees will absorb carbon effectively capturing emissions from nearby vehicles, contributing to improved air quality, and combatting climate change. • Shading: Situated in a south-facing location, these trees will offer much-needed shade during hot summers, making our streets more inviting and comfortable for residents and visitors. • Rainwater : The mature evergreens will assist in rainwater runoff, reducing the risk of flooding and relieving pressure on our drainage systems. • Wildlife : By planting these trees, we'll create a haven for birds and insects, fostering biodiversity • Community Pride: It demonstrates our community's dedication to sustainability and the environment, bolstering our commitment to a greener future.

What we'll deliver:

  • Three mature evergreen trees
  • 3 XL planters
  • 3 sets of low maintenance plants and shrubs

Why it's a great idea:

This endeavor extends beyond aesthetics; it sends a powerful message to all, including passengers disembarking at Ilford South. It communicates that Redbridge is resolutely committed to sustainable, biodiverse streets, setting a precedent for responsible urban development. To turn this vision into reality, we invite our community, local authorities, and concerned citizens to join hands. Through collective efforts, fundraising, and advocacy, we can bring this idea to fruition, transforming our dull streets into vibrant, green oases that benefit us all. Together, we can create a future where our streets reflect our shared values of sustainability, beauty, and community pride.

Steps to get it done:

  • Ordering the materials
  • choosing plants
  • Installation
