The idea
The project is to address the needs of the different user groups in the community.
The fencing will define clear boundaries between the amenities within Water Tower Gardens (WTG) and ensure that funds and time spent on the upkeep of the green is not negatively impacted by improper use.
By way of balancing the need of the wider community, the bowling club are open to reducing the bowling provision from two greens to one - enabling the second to be used by the wider community.
The potential use of the second green to be decided by the council in their draft plans for the WTG.
However we would advocate that others within the community would be best served by maintained lawn.
What we'll deliver
- Install 144 metres of Profile Wire Mesh Fence and posts around the bowling green
- Install entrance gate for access to the bowling green
Why it's a great idea
The club is run on a voluntary basis and the fencing will protect the volunteers and the facility, providing a safe environment that deters misuse.
The green is a well used and important leisure facility within WTG currently at risk of becoming degraded by inappropriate use.
With limited resources and funds to restore damage, the fencing will safeguard continued use.
The intention is not to segregate the green from the rest of the Park.
Fencing specified at 1.2 metres high will ensure that an open aspect is retained across the Park.
The mesh fencing will match existing fencing to ensure visual continuity.
A well maintained enclosed green will attract new players of all ages
and abilities.
Steps to get it done
- Hire and install site safety fencing for the project area
- Purchase of all materials for the project
- Groundwork for installation of posts ready for mesh panels to be fixed
- Installation of access gate to bowling green
- Opening day to show completed project to the community , bowlers and backers
